I have been waiting all summer to write about faux fur jackets (we actually shot these photos in June). It’s another trend that I thought would last a season or two. It’s been going strong for several years now. Shrimps was the first design house to come out with the really fun colors and designs faux fur. Now everyone is jumping on the faux fur bandwagon… and for a really good reason.
Micheal Kors, Versace, and Gucci are joining other notable luxury fashion labels including Stella McCarthy, Tommy Hilfiger, and Giorgio Armani to stop using real animal fur. The recent shift by luxury fashion leaders scores a powerful and meaningful commitment in the anti-fur movement. It’s a growing list and is growing way beyond individual designers thanks to the British Fashion Council’s decision to ban animal fur from every show during London Fashion Week this month. This is the very first major Fashion Council to ban animal fur entirely. The Council also announced in a press release this summer that they are continuing to encourage designers “to make ethical choices when it comes to their selection of material and supply chain.” Bravo
As a serious ex-fur buyer I am now also making the commitment to ban animal fur from my fashion repertoire… completely and I am so hoping you will join me!
